How It Works

Record, analyze, and improve your emotions with Teman's diary system.

Teman tracks and evaluates your daily emotional state by having you complete a quick survey sent to you each day through the app. Based on your results, you will be recommended tools and resources that will help you promote a healthier lifestyle. The app also connects you to licensed professionals who can provide tips and information on how to maintain positive mental outlook.

Target Market

and Goal

Young professionals who seek healthier and happier lifestyles

People who want to reduce anxiety and stress, defuse conflicts, improve relationships and empathy toward others, and effectively overcome life's challenges.

First Phase

Competitors

Research, Interviews

and Insights

By interviewing young adults who work within various industries, I was able to gather insights and identify behavioral patterns that help me determine solutions to most human emotional problems. I researched similar services from competitors and concluded that updating your emotions regularly using some form of recording technology is common practice.

However, most of them stop at recording, and do not provide further assistance in improving self-care and mental health. TEMAN seeks to fill in that gap

Second Phase

Pain Points, Insights and Hypothesis

I analyzed the information that I gained from user interviews, and identified pain points people face when trying to improve EQ. I then combined my findings and desk research to find a solution to the pain points.

Third Phase

Concepts, Sketch and User Testing

It is important to continuously make modifications and enhancements when developing an app. Initially, TEMAN is equipped with additional functions such as a smart watch and speaker integration, focusing more on wearable technologies. However, through my second round of user interview, I have decided to drop these features as they do not necessarily serve the purpose TEMAN strives to achieve.

Instead, I have added an in-app survey (to determine user EQ level), more training methods to train body and mental wellness, and points/rewards system to incentivize users to keep using the app.

Fourth Phase

Wireframe

I developed a user flow that will work best with mobile app. I focused on developing the best and most efficient way for users to record, update, and review emotions, and connect that to the points/rewards system for users to exchange their efforts in utilizing the app. Users can exchange points for benefits that will further improve mental health.

Fifth Phase

Art Direction

I came up with two versions of art direction. The first version was well-received. However, one particular feedback was repeated multiple times across a number of users--that the first version seemed too rigid and was not user friendly.

In response to that feedback, I redesigned the art direction to make it more appealing to the users and easier to follow while still fulfilling the app's objectives. The second art direction was much preferred compared to the first one.

Sixth Phase

Prototyping

I went with a modern, bold, and contemporary approach for my prototype design, which includes warmer color palettes and illustrations. The result is a 'HEADSPACE'-inspired look that is exciting, clean, and easy to follow.

The Final Product

Final Thoughts

The Challenges

The biggest challenge of this project is knowing exactly how to cater to the different users. As this is a mental health related app, it is crucial for me to address different personalities and human psyches. This will always remain as a challenge as there will never be a one size fits all solution to solving mental health issues and forming positive habits

What I

Have Learned

The important lesson that can be derived from this project is understanding that I am not trying to fix people, but rather offer guidance on how they can always improve--that forming good habits can translate to better mental health

Next Step

Iterate the system to digital personal assistants such as Siri, Cortana, or Alexa as well as wearable technologies. This will make data gathering easier and more efficient
